Reef off Society Bank
Note 1 on PEYC Course Charts: There is a curved reef off the outermost Society Bank Yellow Pole. This pole DOES NOT represent the end of the danger. The reef extends about 40 metres East, 120 metres North, and 100 metres West of the pole.
It is undoubtedly possible for even big yachts to pass over this reef at spring high tides and cheat the tidal flow at owner's risk. The problem is to assess when it is safe to do so.
The club advises all owners to keep clear.
Reef off PEYC Starter's Box
(Note 2 on PEYC Course Charts) A reef extends about 20 metres from the Starters Box straight across the harbour mouth. It is of concern to yachts at lowish tides.
The walls of all piers slope into the sea, so the bottoms of the walls constitues hazards if you are within 5 to 10 metres of them. To hail the Race Officer, it is best to approach his box from the East or North, not from the West (Harbour) side.
Port Edgar Mud Banks
These are not dangerous, but can be embarrassing when you get stuck in a yacht & can lead to blocked cooling water channels in your engine.
The sketch below shows the situation last year. At low tide, keep close to the pontoons and the West Wall. DO NOT attempt the Eastern pier route where you have the reef as well as the mud!
