If you are a member of Edinburgh University sailing club then you are an affiliated member of PEYC. This provides you with all the sailing benefits of being a racing member at PEYC. Full racing members can participate in all our cruising and racing activities and if you become an accredited helm then you can hire our 707’s. We also have a couple of dinghies you can borrow. We recently acquired a small cruising yacht. This may be something on offer to EUSC in the future.
In the past the main activity has been EUSC hiring our 707’s for sailing and occasionally racing which has been great. We are very keen to help EUSC get more yacht racing experience. However, there is so much more the club has on offer.
On Sundays we run yacht race training and racing. If EUSC arent sailing a 707 that week you are welcome to sign up to race or train on other yachts just let us know when you can sail and we will find you a yacht to train or race on. Equally if some of you hire a 707 and want to race but need more crew then let us know with a yacht update form.
Every Wednesday from April to the end of October we race in the evenings. Yachts are often looking for crew. Just complete a crew available form and we will get you out racing. You just need to be down at Port Edgar by 1815 latest, ideally a little earlier. The racing typically starts at 1900.Dinghy racing
We have regular dinghy racing too. Novice racers are catered for on Thursday evenings in South Queensferry bay. For more serious racers we run three races back to back on Saturday afternoons starting at 1p.m. Details of all these events can be found in the club calendar.
The club has a Laser (both radial and full rig) and an Omega available for members to borrow. Of course the university would be very welcome to bring the EUSC dinghies to these races.
If you want to get involved just email Pete Collings and he will help you out.
A group of keen club sailors run the PEYC 707 Club programme. See the link to get involved. The 707 Club is a place to practise sailing on Hunter 707s, make mistakes and build skills in a safe environment. We take out any level from complete beginners to competent sailors who want to go sailing. See the link to get involved.
A number of members with yachts go on our organised cruises every Thursday evening and at the weekend. They always need crew. If you want to get involved then join the cruising group. Details are on our Cruising Home page
Theory and Practice Sessions
Theory Practice Sessions (TPS) are for sailors of any level eager to practice skills found in RYA Comp Crew, Day and Coastal Skipper qualifications, both theory and practical. The sessions are ideal both for sailors who have just done a qualification and are eager to embed the skills and for sailors working towards a coming certification, or for sailors of long standing who feel a bit rusty.
