Port Edgar Yacht club is launching a new initiative in dinghy sailing and would like to invite all dinghy sailors at Port Edgar to join in, either with their own boat, or with a hired boat from Port Edgar WaterSports Centre .
For many years, the club has organised racing on Monday evenings and at weekends, now, for the second half of 2019, we will add supported sailing on Thursday evenings. The plan is to keep it simple, informal, flexible, and fun. We’ll meet around 6PM and look at the wind and weather; options may include a three bridges cruise, a sail round the bay, or a bit of practice at manoeuvring. The aim will be to be back around 8PM, or earlier if the tide is low.
There will always be a safety RIB in attendance with an experienced dinghy sailor offering advice and assistance. Families are welcome and the club may be able to help match boats and sailors for two-handed dinghies.
Obviously there are some limits with tides and daylight, so the proposed dates are:
Date | |
18 July | Low tide at 19:50 – need to be in early. |
25 July | OK |
01 August | No sailing, tide off the end of the slip. |
08 August | OK |
15 August | OK |
22 August | OK |
29 August | No sailing, tide off the end of the slip. |
5 September | OK |
12 September | OK |
19 September | Civil Twilight at 20:00 – The last evening sail. |
Contact Steve Knowles ( steve.knowles@blueyonder.co.uk / 07854 584417 ) to join in or meet us in the PEYC clubhouse around 18:00. If that’s a bit early for you, find us on the slip, or on the water, you’ll be welcome to join in.
