Racing Organisation

The club schedules regular races for both yachts and dinghies, all of which are shown in the Calendar.  Yacht Racing takes place on Wednesday Evenings and Sunday afternoons during the season.  In 2024, the yacht racing fleet is split into three : Division 1 PY<975, Division 2 Hunter 707s and Division 3 PY>/=975.  Dinghy racing takes place on Thursday Evenings and Saturdays. The races are grouped into a number of series and prizes awarded for each series in every division - both on Standard and Rolling Handicaps (BH & RH) at the end of the season.

For you to be able to enter a yacht or dinghy in a club race, you must first be a PEYC member and have updated your membership profile to indicate which boats you either own or sail in as crew.

For both yachts and dinghies, participating boats are required to be the Officer of the Day (OOD) These duties and those of the Committee Boat are scheduled in the OOD and CB Duty Rotas.

To help ensure good racing, OOD Guidance is made available for each duty, advising on all aspects of running a successful race.  This advice takes into account the wind and tide effects and guides the race officer to select suitable courses for the race from a series of pre-determined Yacht Courses and Dinghy Courses.

Details of the race series are documented in the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.
