707s

The Hunter 707 is a one class design keelboat usually sailed by a crew of four or five. Port Edgar has one of the largest fleets of 707s in the UK and each year a number of Major Open Events for 707s are hosted at Port Edgar Yacht Club.

The 707 is, as its name suggests 7.07m in length. While it was designed a racing "Sports-boat" some of those design feature also make it an excellent cruising day boat with simple controls and handling when in white sail mode (leave the spinnaker in the bag). The boat has a large wide cockpit at the expense of minimal creature comforts below decks, but when racing or out for a couple of hours day-sailing this can be an advantage over a more cruising oriented boat with a much more cramped cockpit, but a heads, a galley and some berths below. 

In short, the 707s are an excellent choice to hire for both an afternoon or evening short cruise, or a Wednesday evening race or a weekend open event. 

The Club owns two 707s - Jalapeno and Baltika, which are available for accredited club members to hire, for racing or just sailing. If you are not an accredited helm, you can book a mentored session if you want to try out a 707 out or be assessed to enable you to become an accredited helm.
