Edinburgh Cup 2026

The weekend of the 25/26 April saw the first 707 Association event of the year at Port Edgar with The Edinburgh Cup - a series with no discards. With 16 Entries, which included the usuals, 2 teams from Dundee University and the Beluga 100% ladies crew joining, the fleet demonstrating inclusive and competitive racing for all. Saturday brought a cloudy start, but with a steady easterly airflow, allowing for a prompt start of Races 1 and 2, with the results being:
- Race 1: 1st SeaWord, 2nd More T Vicar, 3rd Po
- Race 2: 1st Tsunami, 2nd Eastlander, 3rd More T Vicar
Then the sun burned off the haar seeing the wind increase and back to the north requiring some sterling work from the committee boat, ribs and Beamer in resetting the course, including the start line in a building ebb tide.
The remaining three races were then held with quick turn arounds, which allowed an additional 5th race to be held, a wise decision by the prophetic race team.
- Race 3: 1st Po, 2nd Braveheart, 3rd More T Vicar
- Race 4: 1st More T Vicar, 2nd Tsunami, 3rd Po
- Race 5: 1st More T Vicar, 2nd Po, 3rd Braveheart
The last race - the race home - was completed under the bridges in glorious sunshine with billowing spinnakers - a perfect advert to the cruise liner passengers of what proper sailing is. The most surprising result of the day has to be that with 5 races and a running tide there was no general recall - possibly a first! An evening spent ashore allowed enjoyment of a splendid BBQ in the first proper sunshine of 2026.
As for Sunday, well it was as predicted - the wind failed to materialise resulting in racing being abandoned and the overall results from Saturday standing. An early prize giving, with prizes for every entrant and a thank you to each and everyone of the PEYC volunteers.
Congratulations to More T Vicar - to the victor and, furthest travelled visitor, go the spoils and trophy. To the volunteers, a MASSIVE thank you - without your inputs, efforts and good decision making, none of this would be possible.
